A Sunset Beach Family Photoshoot

I recently had the absolute pleasure of capturing a Sunset Beach Family Photoshoot during a golden light sunset right here in gorgeous Myrtle Beach, SC. As a family photographer who thrives on candid moments and fun-filled sessions, I couldn’t have asked for a better setting or a more wonderful family to photograph!!! And their story is even more amazing!

For a perfect family photo session, try Pawleys Island at Huntington State Park! Start near the castle for less windy photos, avoid the sand and wetness, and then head to the beach for some fun!! This is one of my favorite family and senior photography spots in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

The Magic of Golden Hour 🌞

Golden hour, that magical time just before sunset, is a photographer’s dream. The light is soft, warm, and just perfect for creating stunning, light and airy images that are full of life and love! But let’s be real for a second – as dreamy as golden hour is, you can capture amazing photos at any time of the day, even in the harshest light.

Tips for Shooting in Harsh Light 🌟

I love educating other photographers on how to make the most of every lighting situation. Here are some of my top tips for shooting in harsh light and still getting those amazing family photos:

Free Education for Harsh, Bright Light can be found HERE!

  1. Find Some Shade: If the sun is blazing, look for natural shade. Trees, buildings, or even a family member can provide the perfect respite from harsh rays.
  2. Use Reflectors: A reflector can be your best friend. It helps bounce light back onto your subjects, softening harsh shadows and creating a beautiful, even glow.
  3. Backlighting is Key: Position the sun behind your subjects to create a lovely backlight. This not only adds a magical glow but also prevents squinting and harsh shadows on faces.
  4. Embrace Silhouettes: Don’t shy away from those strong contrasts. Silhouette shots can be incredibly striking and a beautiful way to capture the family’s connection.
  5. Be Creative: Play with angles, shadows, and compositions. Sometimes the most unexpected moments make the best photos.

Capturing Memories, Not Poses 📸

One of the things I adore most about being a family photographer is the ability to capture real, candid moments. Forget the stiff poses – let’s be silly, have fun, and let those genuine smiles shine through! Photography is all about capturing memories that families will cherish forever, and the best way to do that is by keeping things relaxed and playful.

A Light and Airy Approach 🌤️

My style is all about light and airy images that reflect the joy and warmth of the moment. Whether it’s a giggle between siblings, a tender hug from mom and dad, or a spontaneous dance on the beach, I strive to create photos that are as light-hearted and joyful as the families I photograph.
